MIBC-Baptist English Church Service in Funchal
About us
We (Aurelio and Sietske) met on the mission field in Casablanca in 1989 and got married a year later. We served as missionaries for more than 20 years in North West Africa and now we have been in Madeira for some time already. After preaching in different churches as a guest speaker for a few years, in April 2024, the Lord opened the door for us to join this existing MIBC-Baptist church in Funchal to start an English Christian Fellowship.
About the Church
This is an Evangelical Bible-believing church in an old area of Funchal, not far from the center. Every Sunday at 11 AM, we have a time of worship and prayer and a sermon from the Bible. We take communion on the first Sunday of the month. After the service we have a social time to get to know each other. Our Portuguese brothers hold their services on Sunday evening at 7 PM and Friday evening at 8:30 PM.
About our mission
Why start a church service in English? In recent years, more and more foreigners from many different nations have been settling in Madeira, as well as some locals who have lived most of their lives abroad – I am one of them, born of the Portuguese diaspora in Congo. Many visitors also come to Madeira for a one-time trip or on a regular basis. English is a lingua franca for those who cannot communicate fluently in Portuguese. This is why we started this service in English: to reach out to all nations under heaven who happen to be in Madeira! :)
